Valet drives car into residential lift shaft, falls 25 feet in Mumbai

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday, a valet attendant, Subhash Kumar Yadav, was instructed by the car’s owner, Vipul Doshi, to retrieve a vehicle from the second-floor podium of the Horizon Gold building in Charkop, Kandivli West, Mumbai. Unaware that the parking platform was not aligned with the lift shaft, Yadav drove the Alto into the opening, causing it to tumble about 25 feet down the shaft. Residents helped pull Yadav from the wreckage; he sustained leg injuries and was taken to Aastha Hospital, where he was later discharged.

The fire brigade confirmed the building’s layout and a private Hydra crane was deployed to remove the damaged car. Police were called to the scene, noting the car was heavily mangled, though no formal complaint had been filed. Authorities said an investigation would determine responsibility for the incident.
