Vehicle crashes into Glendale preschool, injuring eight children

Around 2 p.m., Glendale police responded to a call that a vehicle had collided with the Grandview House Preschool in the 1200 block of North Pacific Avenue. According to Sergeant Gaik Pobokhian, a 79-year-old driver attempted a U-turn in the school parking area, accidentally flooring the gas pedal and accelerating through a parked car, a metal gate, and the building’s wall into a classroom. The preschool was hosting a summer camp for 4- and 5-year-olds, with about 60 children present.

Nearby residents and passing motorists rushed to the scene, removing sections of stucco to free the children. Eight children were transported to hospitals with minor injuries and were discharged by evening; no adults were injured. The driver cooperated with investigators, who reported no evidence of DUI or impairment, and she was released without charges.
