Veteran pitcher Luis Castillo set to debut for White Sox against Red Sox

Former Seattle right-hander Luis Castillo, acquired by Chicago in a deadline deal, will make his first start for the White Sox on Thursday at Fenway.

The 33-year-old, who has logged 87-93 with a 3.65 ERA over ten seasons and earned All-Star honors in 2019, 2022 and 2023, described the move as a fresh start while emphasizing the continuity of his competitive mindset. He added that adapting to new teammates can be challenging, but once the game begins the focus is on winning.

Will Venable highlighted Castillo’s seasoned background and reputation as a positive influence in the clubhouse, noting the recent acquisitions of Huascar Brazobán, Brenton Doyle and Joey Bart. Castillo entered the season 3-9 with a 5.06 ERA, but remains confident in his ability to contribute. The pitcher also referenced his postseason experience, posting a 2-3 record and a 2.25 ERA in six playoff appearances, and stressed the importance of health for a playoff push.
