Veteran sues Amazon after tabletop fire pit explodes, leaving severe burns

Former Navy helicopter search-and-rescue swimmer Anthony Trevino sued Amazon after a Colsen tabletop fire pit he bought on the platform detonated on his balcony, leaving his chest, arms and face badly scarred. The lawsuit states the item was advertised as "Easy & Safe to Use" and that Trevino was refilling it with medical-grade isopropyl alcohol when an invisible flame ignited, producing a blast that melted nearby décor.
He spent weeks in the hospital and suffers lasting nerve damage. The complaint notes that similar pits have been banned in Australia and Canada and that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled about 89,500 units in 2024, yet Amazon allegedly continued to list the product with only a vague safety notice. Attorney Jeremy Robinson contends that Amazon, as the marketplace operator, bears responsibility for the injuries. The California Post sought comment from Amazon without receiving a response.
