Vice President Vance convenes congressional fraud task force at the White House

Vice President JD Vance is set to lead a fraud task force meeting at the White House on Wednesday, with an estimated twenty members of Congress in attendance. Participants will receive guidance on how to combat health-care fraud within their respective states and districts, and will explore legislative options to strengthen the administration’s crackdown. The meeting comes after the Justice Department broadened its Northeast Health Care Fraud Strike Force to include Philadelphia, resulting in 19 defendants being charged for over $4 million in false Medicare and Medicaid claims.

Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday also announced a plea deal concluding a 21-defendant case involving $1.7 million in fraudulent claims. Vance and CMS chief Dr. Mehmet Oz have already halted more than $1.4 billion in federal payments to home-health and hospice providers under suspicion. Recent data reveal a 7,100 % surge in Medicare skin-substitute claims from 2019 to 2025, prompting the identification of 4,200 dubious claims totaling $224 million. President Donald Trump created the task force by executive order and has praised the effort as a major component of his "War on Fraud."
