Victorian farmer raises reward to $20,000 after dog shot in suspected drive-by

At a family-run nursery near Beechworth, Tom Powell was driving an ATV when his German short-haired pointer, Daisy, was shot in a suspected drive-by incident on May 15. The bullet pierced her rear leg and exited her abdomen, but she survived following veterinary care valued at roughly $2,700. Powell first announced a $5,000 reward for tips that could lead to a conviction, later raising it to $20,000 because of worries about local safety.

He told authorities the shooting appeared intentional, noting a decade-long pattern of complaints aimed at his operation. Two staff members were present nearby, tending to garlic plants, when the incident occurred. A police report has been lodged, but investigators have yet to identify any suspects. Powell hopes the larger reward will encourage witnesses to come forward.
