Victoria Police have concluded a civil claim with Brodie Holt, a 27-year-old father from Traralgon, over a 2022 police arrest that resulted in permanent brain injury. The incident, captured on security footage, shows officers pushing and restraining Holt before an officer fell on him, causing his head to strike concrete. Holt was placed in an induced coma, awoke with post-traumatic amnesia, and now lives with his parents, relying on them for daily care.
The confidential settlement, thought to be worth millions, addresses special damages such as medical treatment, lost earnings and long-term support. Holt’s mother, Kellie Holt, who filed the suit, quit her supermarket job to become his full-time caregiver, while his father, Joe Holt, says the episode has destroyed his confidence in police. Victoria Police maintain the allegations are unsubstantiated and that the officer’s loss of balance was unintentional.
