Visa to acquire AI fraud-detection firm BioCatch for $2.4 billion

Visa announced a cash purchase of BioCatch, an AI-driven fraud-prevention company, for $2.4 billion, funded by Permira and other investors.

Visa revealed that it will purchase BioCatch, a company that applies AI to monitor user interactions such as keystrokes, mouse activity, touch-screen gestures and device integrity, in order to detect and prevent fraud. The transaction is priced at $2.4 billion in cash, with the financing provided by Permira and additional investors. By adding BioCatch’s technology, Visa aims to expand its cybersecurity offerings and give merchants tools to thwart account takeovers and scams that collectively drain more than $1 trillion from the global economy annually.

Andrew Torre, who leads Visa’s value-added services, said the acquisition will enable clients to stop fraudulent activity before it reaches the payment stage. The move reflects Visa’s broader strategy to deepen its capabilities in a rapidly evolving threat landscape. The deal is expected to close later this year, subject to customary regulatory approvals.
