A one-day strike by WestJet cabin crew prompted the airline to negotiate a provisional contract with the Canadian Union of Public Employees. The tentative arrangement includes a wage boost exceeding 18% over a three-year span and introduces a duty-period premium that compensates staff for ground-based work. The deal further raises food and uniform allowances and expands paid leave.
All WestJet flights across much of Canada were halted during the strike, which occurred over a long holiday weekend. Normal service resumed gradually after the agreement was reached on Monday. Cabin crew are slated to cast ballots on the proposal in the near future.
