At approximately 12:08 p.m. on Monday, workers at Los Angeles City Hall’s mailroom found a bag sealed with an unknown white powder, prompting an immediate emergency response. Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department and police units converged on the 200 North Spring Street address, where they assessed a single staff member who was not contaminated and therefore did not need medical transport. Hazardous-materials teams have since cordoned off multiple levels of the building to protect employees.
The LAPD Hazardous Materials division has taken charge of analyzing the material and tracing its origin. Authorities have assured the public that no active danger remains. The incident remains under investigation.
