Williams sisters receive wildcard to team up in Cincinnati women's doubles

Serena and Venus Williams have been awarded a wildcard to compete as a team in the women's doubles event at the Cincinnati Open, a WTA 1000 tournament taking place in Ohio from August 11 to 23. This will be the first time the sisters have shared a doubles court at a major event since the 2022 US Open, after Serena withdrew from Wimbledon due to a knee injury sustained in her singles loss to Maya Joint. The appearance could help pave the way for Serena to return to the US Open later this year, where she last played a Grand Slam singles match four years ago.

Together the Williams sisters have amassed 14 major doubles titles and three Olympic gold medals. In addition to the doubles wildcard, Venus, now 46, also received a singles wildcard for the Cincinnati tournament.
