WMATA unveils commemorative Smart Trip card for Washington DC Grand Prix

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced a commemorative Smart Trip card timed with the Freedom 250 IndyCar Grand Prix in Washington, D.C. The card displays red, white and blue striping and a white race-car motif, along with the event’s name. Distribution begins on Aug 20 at Metro stations at Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport, Union Station and several downtown stops including Archives, Gallery Place, Glenmont, L’Enfant Plaza, Metro Center, Friendship Heights and Smithsonian.

The race, scheduled for Aug 22-23, will convert city streets into the first auto-racing circuit ever held in the capital, honoring America’s 250th anniversary. Metro shared a photo of the limited-edition card on its X platform. Riders can purchase the card at the listed stations for a themed fare option.
