Woman in Bihar forced to lick sputum by village council, FIR filed after video spreads

In a village within Begusarai district, Bihar, a woman named Ruchi claimed she was raped by her neighbour Nitish on two separate nights in early June. When the accused fled, members of the local panchayat allegedly forced her to kneel on an open ground and lick sputum, with Sanjay Yadav and the accused’s mother present. The episode was recorded and later circulated widely on social media, prompting police attention.

Begusarai DSP Nikhil Kumar confirmed that an FIR was lodged on July 31 and that the alleged rapist remains at large. He added that the police are examining the video’s authenticity before taking further action. Ruchi’s husband, a labourer working in Tamil Nadu, said she initially kept silent before reporting the assault.
