Woman in Erode Killed After Friend from Social Media Sets Her Ablaze

A 24-year-old woman in Erode died when a man she met online poured kerosene on her and ignited the fire.

Erode authorities say 24-year-old S Vinodhini, staying with her mother in Bharathi Nagar after a marital split, was killed after a dispute with Naveen, a 26-year-old from Sayalkudi who she had befriended on a social-media platform. Police report that Naveen arrived at her residence on Wednesday, confronted her about what he perceived as dwindling communication, and escalated the argument by pouring kerosene on her and setting her on fire.

Neighbours transported the victim to Erode Government Hospital, where she later died from her injuries. Naveen, who also suffered burns, sought treatment at Amaravathi Government Hospital in Karur district and was subsequently apprehended by a joint effort of Erode taluk police and Karur police.
