WSU fall camp kicks off with quarterback battle and shifting offensive line lineups

Washington State opened its first fall practice under coach Kirby Moore, evaluating three quarterbacks and experimenting with several offensive line configurations.

On a sweltering afternoon in Pullan, Washington State University held its first fall camp practice, led by head coach Kirby Moore who praised the team's enthusiasm while acknowledging areas needing work. The session featured a three-way competition at quarterback among transfer Caden Pinnick, returner Owen Eshelman and Julian Dugger, each completing short passes but struggling with deeper throws. Veteran receiver Tony Freeman was a frequent target, and defensive end Malachi Wrice simulated a sack on Dugger.

The offensive line saw notable shuffles: Kyle Martin moved from center to guard, Noah Dunham shifted to center, and Jonny Lester lined up at right tackle despite being a natural guard. Veterans Max McCree and Jaylin Caldwell were absent, leaving the right tackle spot open. Defensive highlights included tackles Paul Hutson and Balaam Miller, the latter batting down a pass. Coach Moore emphasized the need for communication as the unit works toward a cohesive front line.
