Wynn Resorts pushes back opening of UAE's first casino to September 2027

Wynn Resorts announced that the United Arab Emirates' inaugural licensed casino will now open in September 2027, delayed by regional conflict and supply-chain issues.

Wynn Resorts reported that the first casino to receive a commercial gaming licence in the United Arab Emirates is now slated to welcome guests in September 2027. CEO Craig Billings described rapid progress on the 1,542-room resort at Al Marjan Island, noting that mechanical, electrical and finishing work are proceeding sequentially. The project was originally delayed in May due to logistical hurdles after the war that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.

Ongoing regional instability continues to affect the supply chain and the movement of personnel, inflating costs by an estimated $600 million, about half of which is attributed to the conflict and higher shipping rates. The announcement coincided with a 5 % rise in Wynn Resorts' shares in after-hours trading. The casino will join Wynn's existing operations in Las Vegas, Boston and Macau.

Why it matters

It marks the launch of the UAE's first legal casino, signaling a shift in the country's entertainment landscape and involving significant financial stakes.
