Xbox reported a widespread service disruption that started Sunday night at roughly 11 p.m. ET, initially preventing users from signing in, opening apps, or browsing the store. The status page later warned that the problem could also impact the ability to play both digital purchases and disc-based games, a claim. One reporter noted that while his own digital library launched, Game Pass titles failed with error code 0x87e107df, suggesting a licensing verification issue.
Xbox’s support account on X posted at 2:03 p.m. ET that multiple investigation angles were being pursued, and a follow-up at 2:41 p.m. ET said conditions were gradually improving and apologized for the prolonged outage. The company has not provided a direct comment. In parallel, Xbox is testing a feature that would automatically grant a digital copy to owners of disc games, underscoring the broader concerns about authentication dependencies on physical media.
