Yusaku Maezawa's $500 million superyacht flaunts gigantic radar domes designed by Marc Newson

Yusaku Maezawa’s newly completed superyacht Naï​sicaä, costing roughly $500 million, has captured online attention for its striking radar equipment. The 374-foot, 6,593-gross-ton sailing yacht was constructed by Lürssen in Germany and designed by industrial designer Marc Newson, known for his work on the Apple Watch. Rather than hide the communications gear, Newson made four huge gray radome spheres a central visual element, each covering a gyro-stabilised satellite dish that must be large to secure reliable links in distant ocean regions.

The domes are protected by radio-transparent shells that shield the delicate hardware from salt, wind and rain. Inside the vessel, a black “Skydome” houses Maezawa’s private office, while the yacht’s propulsion combines diesel-electric engines, a 2-megawatt battery bank and a 1-megawatt methanol fuel-cell system. Viral clips show crew members using long brushes and hoses, looking minuscule against the massive structures as they clean them. The vessel is equipped to support 18 guests and up to 36 crew members with high-bandwidth satellite services for 4K streaming and business communications.
