102-Year-Old Dementia Patient Dies After Alleged Push at Cwmbran Pub
A 102-year-old man with dementia died two weeks after being allegedly pushed at the Crows Nest pub in Cwmbran, prompting a police investigation and an inquest.
Philip Ormerod, a 102-year-old man suffering from dementia, visited the Crows Nest pub in Cwmbran and went onto the venue’s stage to complain about the music volume. On 1 August he was allegedly pushed, fell, and sustained a fractured hip, leading to his admission to the Grange Hospital in critical condition. He died on 12 August, and a forensic post-mortem has been completed.
Police have arrested a 56-year-old man from Llanelli on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm; he remains on bail while the investigation continues. Senior coroner Caroline Saunders opened an inquest, which will be adjourned until the criminal case is resolved, with a possible final hearing set for 26 May 2027. Authorities have urged anyone present at the pub between 22:00 and 23:00 BST to come forward.
