12 senior politicians received DNAA rulings between 2010 and July 2026

The Prime Minister's Department confirmed that twelve high-profile politicians were granted Discharge Not Amounting to an Acquittal (DNAA) from 2010 through July 2026, but did not disclose names or charges.

In response to a written question from MP Pang Hok Liong, Azalina Othman Said of the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) reported that twelve politicians and senior public figures were granted Discharge Not Amounting to an Acquittal (DNAA) between 2010 and July 2026. The count derives from records supplied by the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court, but the minister withheld the identities of those involved and the nature of the allegations.

She advised the MP to approach the Attorney General's Chambers for any further specifics. Azalina emphasized that a DNAA is not a complete exoneration; the same charge can be pursued again if prosecutors find sufficient grounds. Notable recent DNAA cases cited include former UMNO president Zahid Hamidi in 2023 and ex-prime minister Najib Razak in 2025, both relating to large-scale corruption investigations.

Why it matters

It shows how high-level political figures in Malaysia can avoid full convictions while remaining vulnerable to future prosecution.
