12-Year-Old Severely Burned After Climbing Power Pylon for Social Media Stunt
A 12-year-old girl was badly burned when she touched a live wire while climbing an electricity pylon in the outskirts of Navahermosa, Toledo.
In the Río Cedena housing estate near Navahermosa, a 12-year-old girl attempted to climb an electricity pylon to create a social-media post. Contact with a live conductor gave her a powerful shock, causing severe burns and leaving her suspended from the tower. Talavera de la Reina firefighters arrived, cut power to the line, and used an aerial ladder platform to pull her to safety.
After initial emergency care, she was transferred by a mobile intensive-care unit to La Paz University Hospital in Madrid for treatment of her injuries. Following the incident, the Toledo Provincial Fire and Rescue Service issued a social-media alert titled "A photo isn’t worth your life," warning that even indirect contact with electrical installations can be deadly. The message urged youths to avoid climbing poles, towers, or any electrical structures for the sake of online content.
