12TB Steam data dump reveals lost Half-Life 3 and Portal 2 assets
A 12-terabyte leak of Steam uploads from 2003-2013 exposed unreleased game material, including Half-Life 2: Episode 3 and Portal 2 content.
Over 12 TB of data covering all games posted to Steam between 2003 and 2013 has been released, encompassing both Valve titles and numerous third-party releases. Analysts have already uncovered material linked to the abandoned Half-Life 2: Episode 3, as well as removed dialogue and alternate intro and GlaDOS scenes for Portal 2, plus a prototype game named F-Stop that centers on a camera mechanic within the Portal setting.
The archive also includes early versions of major series such as Call of Duty, Resident Evil, Mirror’s Edge, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Dragon Age: Origins. Because of its size, more undiscovered content is expected as researchers continue to sift through the files.
