132 New Kemas Preschools for Autistic Children Set to Open in January
The Community Development Department (Kemas) will launch 132 preschools for autistic children in January, with admissions screening to start next month.
A total of 132 Kemas preschools for children with autism are scheduled to start operations in January, according to director-general Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man. The admission screening process will open next month, coordinated with the Health Ministry, and aims to serve nearly 2,000 children based on high parental interest. Classes will be limited to 15 students, with three teachers per class to ensure a teacher-to-child ratio of five to seven, as required by standards.
Attendance will require a Persons with Disabilities (PwD) card issued by the Welfare Department, aligning with Education Ministry policies that provide allowances for special-needs students. The announcement was made at the Melaka State Kemas Community Festival 2026 held at Semabok Dalam Multipurpose Hall, which was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
