14-Year-Old Migrant Found Hanged in Clermont-Ferrand Youth Shelter
A 14-year-old migrant boy was discovered dead by hanging in a room of the Ddaeomi shelter in Clermont-Ferrand, prompting a judicial investigation.
A judicial probe has been launched following the discovery of a 14-year-old migrant, Abdouramane, hanging in his bedroom at the Ddaeomi shelter in Clermont-Ferrand, a center for unaccompanied minors. Prosecutor Eric Serfass said that forensic examinations are ongoing to establish the circumstances of his death. The young man arrived from Guinea Conakry several months ago and, according to accounts from his acquaintances, suffered from mental health challenges and feelings of isolation.
Thierry Tailhandier of the CGT Santé and Action sociale highlighted the complex profile of the boy, linking his trauma to his exile and journey to France, and lamented insufficient resources despite staff dedication. Local political figures, including Marianne Maximi and Marion Canalès, called for stronger protection measures for children under state care, urging accountability and legislative attention.
Why it matters
The case underscores gaps in support for vulnerable migrant youths and raises questions about child protection policies in France.
