14-year-old placed under investigation for supplying knife in Bakari Sako murder case

Police have added a 14-year-old to the investigation into the killing of migrant worker Bakari Sako, alleging he provided the weapon.

Authorities in Taranto have expanded the probe into the murder of 35-year-old migrant laborer Bakari Sako to include a 14-year-old who is suspected of supplying the knife that caused the fatal wounds. While the teenager is not charged with homicide, he faces investigation for illegal weapon possession after allegedly giving the knife to one of the other minors involved. During his hearing, officials halted the questioning to let him obtain legal representation, appointing Salvatore Difonzo as his lawyer.

The broader case now lists eight individuals, six of whom are charged with homicide conspiracy, including four minors in juvenile facilities and two adults in prison, as well as a bartender accused of aiding a suspect. Surveillance footage captured the attack, but the 14-year-old does not appear in the recordings.
