15-year-old arrested in Lyon on terrorism charges linked to ultranationalist symbols

Investigators searching a Lyon teenager’s bedroom uncovered icons tied to far-right movements, a log tracking American mass-shooting death tolls, and several references to Quentin Deranque, a young Lyon identity activist killed by left-wing activists. Described as adhering to a violent, racist and supremacist ideology, the 15-year-old was taken into custody by the Sous-direction antiterroriste on Thursday 17 September for a suspected knife attack plan at a school.
Following a brief detention, the Parquet national antiterroriste confirmed he was formally charged with "entreprise individuelle terroriste" on Friday 18 September. The anti-terrorism investigating judge ordered his placement in a centre éducatif with specific obligations, though the public prosecutor requested provisional imprisonment. The suspect had previously been flagged for online hate speech and calls for violence, leading to an earlier police interview in May for alleged terrorist propaganda.
