15-Year-Old Sentenced to Conditional Prison for Drunk Escape on Moped
A 15-year-old who drove a moped while heavily intoxicated and fled from police in Oulu was sentenced to 45 days of conditional imprisonment.
In November, a 15-year-old boy in Oulu tried to escape police on a moped while heavily intoxicated, reaching a blood-alcohol concentration of 1.78 ‰. He disregarded the requirement to stay on the right side of the road, rode on both his own and opposing lanes, and ran several red lights. After crashing into a car, he re-joined traffic and continued to evade officers, crossing a traffic divider and using the opposite lane before returning to his lane.
No one was injured during the chase. The case was first heard in Oulu District Court, which sentenced the youth to conditional imprisonment; the Rovaniemi Court of Appeal affirmed the sentence, rejecting his request to replace it with a fine.
