17-Year-Old Suspect Remains Unquestioned in Oslo School Knife Attack, Custody Extension Sought

Nearly a week after a 17-year-old attacked a 16-year-old with a knife at Kuben videregående skole in Oslo’s Økern district, the suspect remains in police custody and has declined to give a statement. Police lawyer Anders Valen Mørland said the boy is charged with attempted murder and that a request for continued detention will be made at next week’s hearing. The victim suffered several stab wounds to the torso, according to counsel for the victim.

Authorities are still determining whether the incident stemmed from a personal feud or was random, and have gathered witness testimonies and circulated videos from students. The accused has a record that includes convictions for participation in robbery, severe threats, illegal weapon carrying and a recent 120-day youth sentence. A combat axe was also found at his home. Both the school and the victim’s family have urged the public not to share the videos further.
