18-year-old Angel Marino wins Sydney Airport scholarship to study aviation management
Angel Marino, an 18-year-old student, received the 2026 Trevor Gerber SYD100 Scholarship, covering full tuition and a yearly residential allowance at UNSW.
A family flight from the Philippines to Australia when she was seven sparked Angel Marino’s lifelong interest in aviation. She later participated in the Australian Air Force Cadets, gaining exposure to aircraft and industry careers. Now studying aviation management at UNSW, Marino was named the 2026 recipient of the Trevor Gerber SYD100 Scholarship, which funds up to four years of tuition and supplies A$25,000 annually for residential fees.
The scholarship, created by Sydney Airport to aid women and culturally diverse youth, also included a behind-the-scenes airport tour for Marino and her parents, Marybell and Reynold, led by former scholar Jessie Huynh. Airport executives and UNSW faculty highlighted the program’s role in building Australia’s future aviation talent pool.
