19-year-old sentenced to jail and caning for repeatedly molesting sister
A Singapore teen who first assaulted his sister at 13 and later molested her again was sentenced to 12 months in jail and one cane stroke.
In Singapore, a 19-year-old was convicted of molesting his sister on two occasions after an earlier sexual assault when he was 13. Following the first offense, he spent roughly three years in a welfare home and attended a sexual-behaviour treatment programme before returning to the family home in 2023. Between February and March 2025, he repeatedly assaulted his sister while she slept, despite the family’s attempts to separate sleeping arrangements.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Lu Huiyi argued that the offender’s pattern of reoffending and lack of genuine remorse warranted a custodial sentence, while his public defenders sought reformative training. District Judge Carol Ling ruled that deterrence outweighed rehabilitation, sentencing him to 12 months’ imprisonment and one cane stroke; the teen is currently out on bail and plans to appeal.
