20-year-old suspect charged with death threat against Alès mayor

Imad E., a 20-year-old native of Alès, was brought before a Paris court on Tuesday and placed under formal investigation for death threats against the town’s mayor, Christophe Rivenq, and illegal possession of a Category D firearm. The alleged threat was made in July, and the suspect surrendered to authorities at the end of the previous week. During questioning, he claimed he was paid to carry out the intimidation but said he did not know who hired him. He also has a prior speeding offence on his record.
