2027 Malaysian Budget targets quality of life and social justice

Prime Minister and finance minister Anwar Ibrahim says the 2027 budget is designed to improve everyday wellbeing and fairness, allocating RM459.8 billion in spending plus RM25 billion in investments for a total of RM510 billion.

In a televised interview, Prime Minister and finance minister Anwar Ibrahim outlined the 2027 budget’s aim of delivering a comfortable and equitable life for all Malaysians. The package includes RM459.8 billion of government expenditure and RM25 billion from government-linked investment companies, public-private projects and statutory bodies, bringing the total to RM510 billion. Anwar stressed that the budget addresses everyday groups such as pet owners, persons with disabilities, gig workers and delivery riders, while also tackling rural issues like income constraints for padi farmers and licensing difficulties for fishermen.

He said the government seeks flexible solutions that protect fish stocks and support livelihoods. The budget aligns with the Madani Economic Framework and the theme “Reaching for the Skies, While Anchored on Our Values,” aiming to link macro-economic growth with tangible benefits for citizens. Anwar affirmed the administration will keep listening to public concerns to ensure policies meet current needs.
