22-year-old worker falls to death during night lighting work at Rome’s Colosseum
A 22-year-old rock-climber worker died after falling roughly ten metres while installing a new lighting system at the Colosseum around midnight.
Around midnight, Andrea Moretti, a 22-year-old rock-climber employed on the lighting upgrade at the Colosseum, fell from a height of about ten metres and died on the spot. First-responders from Ares 118 provided immediate medical aid, but the effort was unsuccessful. The incident prompted the presence of Carabinieri from the Rome Centro company, a specialised investigative team, the forensic doctor, the on-call public prosecutor, as well as officials from the labour inspectorate and ASL Spresal.
A formal inquiry will be launched to reconstruct the circumstances of the fall. Culture Minister Giuli offered condolences to Moretti’s relatives and highlighted the tragedy of a young worker losing his life while performing his duties.
