27-Year-Old Ohio Woman Battles Stage II Breast Cancer and Finds New Life

Marissa Coreno, a 27-year-old Ohio hospital employee, was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer after discovering a lump, underwent intensive treatment and now shares her survivor story.

While adjusting to a new independent life in 2021, Ohio resident Marissa Coreno felt a lump in her armpit and, after an ultrasound and biopsy, learned she had Stage II breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes. The diagnosis shocked her, prompting a treatment regimen that began with four months of taxing chemotherapy, followed by surgery, reconstruction, 25 days of radiation and ongoing hormone therapy slated through 2032.

Throughout, her parents provided daily care, and a chance Instagram exchange over cookies sparked a relationship with Anthony, culminating in marriage in August 2024. Medical experts cite an uptick in breast cancer cases among women in their late twenties, though the disease remains rare in that age group, and emphasize the unique challenges younger patients face, including fertility and more aggressive tumor types. Now cancer-free, Coreno uses her experience to urge others to act on warning signs and highlights the long-term adjustments she continues to manage, such as menopause symptoms and altered fitness routines.
