2GB prepares interview with Ben Roberts-Smith ahead of his murder trial
Radio station 2GB has recorded a interview with former commando Ben Roberts-Smith, to be aired before his upcoming war-crimes murder trial.
2GB plans to broadcast a pre-trial interview with former Australian commando Ben Roberts-Smith, recorded by breakfast host Ben Fordham but still awaiting a broadcast date. Ownership of the station transferred earlier this year to Arthur Laundy’s family, now operating as Tapt Media, and the interview is being vetted by lawyers to ensure it does not affect the forthcoming murder trial. Roberts-Smith faces five counts of war-time murder for alleged executions of Afghan detainees between 2006 and 2012, charges he continues to deny.
Neither the station nor Roberts-Smith’s counsel, Karen Espiner, offered comments, and the interview will be unpaid. The story has attracted attention from right-wing figures such as Pauline Hanson and has been linked to broader political disputes involving One Nation and Liberal MP Andrew Hastie. Recent legal actions, including an arrest by the Australian Federal Police following a joint OSI-one outlet's investigation, underscore the high-profile nature of the case.
Why it matters
The interview could shape public perception of a high-profile war-crimes trial and influence political debate in Australia.
