2K unveils Small Axe Studios to develop a new flagship sports title

2K disclosed the formation of a new AAA development house called Small Axe Studios, tasked with creating the company’s upcoming flagship sports franchise. While the sport has not been officially confirmed, a graphic posted with the announcement displays a mock soccer emblem, implying a soccer title that may rival EA Sports FC. The studio’s senior roster features veterans from EA’s former FIFA series, notably studio head Aaron McHardy, who previously oversaw that franchise.
Small Axe Studios originated from the 2K Sports Lab project introduced in 2023. The new venture will join 2K’s existing lineup, which includes NBA 2K, WWE 2K and PGA Tour 2K, broadening its presence in the sports gaming market.
