30-liter fuel purchase cap imposed around Saint Petersburg amid shortages
Authorities have introduced a 30-liter limit on fuel purchases at stations surrounding Saint Petersburg to curb panic buying.
A temporary restriction limiting fuel purchases to 30 liters per driver has been applied to petrol stations in the Leningrad region surrounding Saint Petersburg. Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko explained that the cap is intended to stop panic buying and a sudden spike in demand. The administration decided against implementing QR-code or ticketing methods, arguing they would cause needless hassle, and is currently attempting to operate without an odd-even licence-plate system.
The region’s fuel supply has become strained, with many independent stations shutting down and a pronounced shortage of gasoline. Since June, Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries have reduced output, and three of the country’s six largest diesel plants have either cut production significantly or halted operations altogether.
