36 Residents from Ten Penang Families Receive First Flood Relief Packages
Thirty-six people from ten families in Kampung Kubang Semang were given initial flood relief kits after being evacuated to a school shelter.
Following torrential rain that struck Bukit Mertajam around 2.30 pm, floodwaters inundated homes in Kampung Kubang Semang, forcing the evacuation of 36 individuals from ten families. They were taken to a relief centre set up in four classrooms at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Penanti, where they received initial assistance, including flood relief kits. District officer Datuk Kamarul Haizal Koderat confirmed that only this village needed evacuation, noting that flooding in Kampung Mengkuang Titi is being managed without relocation.
Ongoing monitoring involves the Village Community Management Council, the District and Land Office, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, the Fire and Rescue Department and the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA). Victims described repeated flooding, with water reaching waist level inside homes, and expressed fatigue over the recurring disasters.
