49ers Owner Jed York Receives Six-Game NFL Suspension and $500,000 Fine

The NFL suspended 49ers owner Jed York for six games and fined him $500,000 after his August prostitution arrest in Ohio.

The NFL announced that San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York will miss six games and pay a $500,000 fine for breaching the league’s personal-conduct rules. York’s disciplinary action follows his August 23 arrest in East Palestine, Ohio, where police stopped him after he tried to arrange a $160 prostitution transaction. He initially faced charges of engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools, but pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and the tool charge, receiving a one-day jail sentence and over $1,000 in fines.

The suspension counts the team’s first three games, allowing York to return on Oct. 20. In a statement, York expressed remorse, said the incident did not reflect his values, and pledged to earn back the trust of the franchise’s community.

Why it matters

The case shows the NFL’s strict enforcement of conduct rules and may impact the 49ers' leadership and public image.
