53-Year-Old Neighbor Charged Over Fatal Accident Involving Two Young Boys in Mäntsälä

A 53-year-old man has been indicted for the death of a 6-year-old and serious injury of a 5-year-old after heavy construction plates fell on them in Mäntsälä.

In October 2024, two boys were playing in the garden of a house in Mäntsälä when a stack of heavy construction plates toppled onto them. One plate weighed roughly 50 kilograms, and multiple plates were involved. The 5-year-old was seriously wounded, and the 6-year-old died as a result of the accident.

Authorities examined whether the plates should have been stored differently and whether the adults had adequately supervised the children. Following the investigation, the 53-year-old homeowner was charged with aggravated manslaughter for the child's death and aggravated assault for the injury to his own son. He has since moved away from the community.
