59-Year-Old Drunk Thief Crashes Stolen Car with Child Into Bridge Support in Olt

A 59-year-old man without a licence stole a car carrying a child, drove while intoxicated and collided with a bridge support, injuring the child.

Investigators from the Olt County Police identified a 59-year-old resident of Izvoarele who stole a car parked on Furculeşti street in the village of Alimăneşti, which was occupied by a child. The suspect lacked any driving licence and recorded a breath-alcohol concentration of 1.17 mg/l. He drove the stolen vehicle to the intersection with Drumul Judeţean 653, where it struck a bridge support, causing a crash. The child required medical treatment and was transported to the Slatina Emergency Hospital.

Police collected blood samples from the driver to confirm intoxication. A criminal dossier was filed for theft for use, driving under the influence, driving without a licence and culpable bodily injury. After an initial 24-hour detention, the Slatina Court ordered a 30-day preventive arrest.
