61-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Queens While Crossing Near Home

Wang Jing, 61, was crossing Union Turnpike close to Main Street in the Kew Gardens Hills neighborhood of Queens around 8 a.m. when a 2010 Honda Civic, driven by a 56-year-old woman making a left turn, struck her outside a marked crosswalk. The impact caused major head injuries, and first responders took her to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where she was later declared dead. The driver remained at the scene and reported no injuries.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating, with no arrests issued so far. Jing's death marks at least the fifth pedestrian fatality in New York City within the past week. Council Speaker Julie Menin and Majority Leader Shaun Abreu expressed condolences, calling the deaths preventable.
