66-Year-Old Romanian Woman Missing After Highway Stop Found Dead Near Olive Tree
A 66-year-old Romanian woman vanished while stopping at a service area on Italy’s A14 highway and was discovered dead the next day near Francavilla al Mare.
While traveling back from Rimini, Maria Ionescu, 66, and her partner stopped at the Alento Ovest service area on Italy’s A14 highway near Miglianico. After the stop, Ionescu vanished; her partner reported that she said she had left to fetch a scarf she had forgotten in the parking lot and then disappeared from view. He later filed a missing-person report and was questioned by investigators for several hours.
About a day after the disappearance, a woman walking her dog found Ionescu’s body hanging from an olive tree in a remote, rugged area near Francavilla al Mare, several kilometres from the service area. Police are reconstructing her movements and examining whether a dispute may have occurred, while awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.
