7-Year-Old Girl Fatally Stabbed on Chicago Street by Unknown Attacker
A 7-year-old girl was killed after a stranger stabbed her multiple times on a South Side Chicago street, and bystanders detained the suspect until police arrived.
In the Chatham area of Chicago's South Side, 7-year-old Edimari Hernandez Chacon was attacked by an unknown woman who ran up behind her and stabbed her several times in the back just before midday. Surveillance footage captured the girl walking hand-in-hand with another woman before the assault, and nearby residents hurried to the scene to intervene, detaining the attacker until police arrived. Edimari was rushed to a children's hospital, where she was declared dead that afternoon.
The alleged assailant received medical treatment for injuries incurred while being held by bystanders and was subsequently taken into custody by the Chicago Police Department. Residents voiced outrage and sorrow, while alderwoman Michelle Harris condemned the act and thanked the intervening citizens for their quick response. Police have not yet provided further comment on the motive or investigation.
