70-Year-Old Woman Fires Weapon Inside Port Orange Police Department Lobby

Port Orange Police Chief Manuel Marino reported that a roughly 70-year-old white woman entered the department’s front lobby shortly after 8 a.m., brandishing a handgun and pointing it at civilian staff. She remained in the lobby for a few minutes before firing several rounds toward the area where staff were working. Officers responded to the active-shooter call, engaged the suspect as she left the lobby, and a brief officer-involved shooting took place.

The woman, still armed at the time, was transported to a hospital; her condition has not been disclosed. All three responding officers and the civilian employees escaped injury. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has opened an investigation into the incident.
