71-year-old man charged with raping teenage girl in George Town mall toilet
A 71-year-old man, Chuang Cheng Seng, was arraigned in George Town's Sessions Court on rape and indecency charges involving an 18-year-old girl in a mall restroom.
In George Town, a Sessions Court hearing saw 71-year-old Chuang Cheng Seng claim trial after being read two charges in Hokkien. He is accused of raping an 18-year-old girl and of committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature, both alleged to have taken place in a second-floor men's toilet of a shopping mall on Oct 1 at 4:30 p.m. The rape charge carries up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping, while the indecency charge allows a five-to-20-year term and whipping.
Deputy public prosecutor Anuarul Hakim Abdul Muen requested RM10,000 bail for each count, with conditions prohibiting contact with the victim or witnesses, monthly police check-ins, and passport surrender. Defence counsel K. Mahendran appealed for a reduced bail, citing Chuang’s diabetes, lack of employment and reliance on his child’s modest income. Judge Juraidah Abbas set a combined bail of RM14,000, required a single surety, and ordered the same reporting and passport restrictions, fixing Nov 16 for further case proceedings.
