79-Year-Old Victorian Man Charged with Falsifying Vietnam Veteran Status
A 79-year-old man from Victoria has been indicted for claiming to have served in Vietnam and for wearing medals he never earned.
Police allege the senior Victorian resident told attendees at a 2024 Vietnam Veterans' Day ceremony in Gin Gin, Queensland, that he fought in Vietnam from 1964 to 1967. Investigators say he displayed several decorations reserved for Australian Defence Force personnel who served overseas, despite his service record showing no overseas deployment. The individual, who lives in Daylesford, is slated to appear before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
