81-Year-Old British Visitor Dies After Rescue Attempt at Ibiza Beach

On a Tuesday afternoon at s’Arenal Gros, one of Portinatx’s main beaches, an 81-year-old British tourist was pulled from the water after appearing to be in distress. Lifeguards began CPR immediately, and volunteers, including a British doctor, a Spanish nurse and a firefighter, continued basic resuscitation for roughly 25 minutes. The 061 emergency service arrived with a mobile intensive-care unit and a basic life-support ambulance, taking over the revival attempts.

Police from Sant Joan de Labritja and later Guardia Civil officers secured the area. The woman, who had been staying at Hotel El Greco, was declared dead at about 5:30 p.m. An autopsy is pending to clarify whether drowning or another medical condition was the primary cause.
