81-year-old former classmate asks Prime Minister Modi to order CBI probe into land feud
Octogenarian Asgarali Vohra met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sept 8, seeking the leader’s help to launch a CBI investigation into a long-running land dispute in Bhayander.
An 81-year-old resident of Mira Road, Asgarali Vohra, approached Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sept 8, asking the premier to intervene in a decades-old land conflict. Vohra purchased roughly 2,810 sq m of property in Navghar, Bhayander East in 1989, but alleges that in 2011 the land was seized by Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions, companies associated with BJP MLA Narendra Mehta, using forged documents. An FIR was lodged in 2015 and the dispute is still before a court.
Vohra has previously appealed to the revenue department, municipal authorities and police without resolution. After the meeting, state transport minister Pratap Sarnaik issued a press note and photographs, expressing confidence that Modi would ensure justice. The municipal administration has taken note, scheduling a hearing for Sept 16 and ordering representatives of the two construction firms to appear.
