81-year-old sentenced to life for 1994 killing of American visitor in Germany
A German court has handed an 81-year-old man a life term for the 1994 murder of U.S. tourist Amy Lopez.
Rupert Stehlin, the presiding judge at Koblenz Regional Court, announced that an 81-year-old man received a life sentence for the 1994 killing of American tourist Amy Lopez. The court classified the crime as especially grave, aligning with unanimous opinions from the prosecution, the joint plaintiffs’ representatives, and the defence counsel. The defendant had initially acknowledged involvement in general terms.
The court determined that the perpetrator enticed Lopez to a derelict structure, restrained her, committed sexual assault and delivered nine stab wounds, resulting in her death. The body was found by children playing in the vicinity soon after the incident. The conviction was secured after decades of investigation, aided by modern DNA analysis techniques.
